Easy for beginner but strong for lots of use

This is my first serger so I don't have anything to compare to. It is, however, relatively easy to thread (after a few screw ups I'm now chugging along). I appreciate the steel frame and that it is meant to take some abuse. I'm using it for several hours a day and it's so easy to use.

Better than 1034D? You bet!

After 9 years, my faithful Brother 1034D began to show its age. It would be $100+ to have it serviced and a new one is $200. So, for a few more bucks more than a new machine, I purchased the Brother ST4031HD. The dials are on the right making adjustments very easy. The extension table, while small, is better than nothing. (I make pillowcases so drag is an issue.) Changing needles is much easier also with separate set screws. Brother took a great product and made it even better.
