I had an injury 8 months ago that meant I lost feeling in my left hand. This is a heavy pot- heavier than Lodge or Le Creuset which meant I had some difficulty in the literal holding and picking up of this pan. I would not recommend it to anyone with a hand injury that resulted in a loss of strength (control) of the hand. I seasoned the pan with oil prior to functional use, let it cool and wiped out the excess prior to use. This worked well and made the use of the pot easy. It cleaned beautifully, cooked evenly, and i just loved it. I wished, just for myself, that I had more strength in the on hand. Having not purchased a new dutch oven in 1000 years, this was easy to season, and more than adequate for the cooking that i intended and did. I would not choose this for myself because of the limitations in my left hand. I could be mistaken in remembering, but I do not recall Lodge and Le Creuset being this heavy. I think it is great for the food but was not not so good for my ability to manage the lifting and moving etc. I plan to try Lodge and one other to see if I can use one effectively with essentially only one hand. This is a stunningly beautiful pot. The heaviness of pot also contributes to even heating- making it almost impossible to truly mess up on the cooking part. I will happily continue with this pot eve with my current impairment. The heaviness makes is even more suitable for many cooking experiences.
