PRO CARE TIPS

Make sure to soak plant with water when soil is completely dry. Check if the soil is dry before each watering.

Best tip is to stick your thumb in the soil and check for moisture.

Direct sunlight for prolonged periods can cause sunburn (not good).

Keep plants out of frost!

• The Madagascar ocotillo (Alluaudia procera) is a distinctly different succulent. The deciduous, spiny shrub has small leaves and a stem that stores water. The succulent first grows as a tangle of stems, similar to the basal leaves of a biennial. Then a central stem forms, and the tangle dies off.
• These cacti don't mind getting plenty of sun. Just be sure to watch out for sunburn marks or spots and move the plant accordingly. No stress watering; only water when the soil is dry. After a little practice, you can tell the soil is dry by feeling the weight of the pot. It is a lot heavier right after a watering.
• The Madagascar ocotillo drops all its leaves at the same time in the fall. After they fall, do not water the succulent; in its native habitat, it is drought-deciduous. The leaves will reappear almost overnight in the rain of the spring.
