This is where the rubber meets the road. It is known as the contact patch. For an average passenger vehicle, the area is typically about the size of a human hand or a 4x6 inch photo. This small area is the only part connecting the car to the road, making it critical for traction, handling, and braking. The exact size and shape of the contact patch are not fixed and depend on several factors, including: Vehicle weight: Heavier vehicles need a larger contact patch to distribute the load and maintain stability. Tire pressure: The size of the contact patch is inversely proportional to the tire's inflation pressure for a given load. Underinflation causes the contact patch to become larger but misshapen, which can increase friction, reduce stability, and cause uneven tread wear. Overinflation results in a smaller contact patch, which decreases grip and braking ability. Tire size: Wider tires generally result in a wider, shorter contact patch, while taller and narrower tires produce a longer, more narrow patch. Tire construction and type: High-performance tires with stiffer sidewalls and specific tread designs produce different contact patch shapes than standard passenger tires. Excellent value - Ride great, no issues to date, 100% better than what was on my SUV, handle great in rain hasn't snowed yet so can't comment other than great for Three Season weather - i don't anticipate any issues once it does snow.
