This is packaged like a powder, labelled a foundation, and sort of falls in between. The coverage is very good, and it lasts for a few hours when used to set your makeup. If you use only this, it provides coverage, but it's not very long lasting. If you want one product in your purse for touch-ups during the day, this is a great choice, it covers and blends well. If you can also keep a travel powder brush on hand, it will deliver flawless touch ups. And yes, the provided sponge is junky, you can fit a 2-2 1/2 inch real powder puff in the compact. Black Opal has recently reformulated their whole line, and the new products do not match the old ones. They have a color matching tool on their own website, and I suggest you use it. The suggested color they chose seemed far lighter than my skin tone, but it looks great on my skin. Black Opal is really making good products for women with darker skin, and I recommend the brand.
