Who were the first pioneers to settle on Marco Island? Who was Betty Collier? In the 1950s, Betty Collier's youngest sons, John (Jack) Laud Collier, born aboard their schooner in 1867, and Walter Columbus Collier, born on Marco Island in 1871, were interviewed for a newspaper article and were asked about their life on a deserted tropical island, and particularly why their family settled on an uninhabited island.
