Bestar Key West Queen Murphy Bed and Closet Organizers with Doors and Drawers (119W) in Pure White Oak

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Now that it's fully installed, this Bestar queen Murphy bed looks fantastic. The design is clean, modern, and once it's in place it feels solid, well engineered, and truly transforms the room. The bed operates smoothly, feels secure when open, and blends nicely into the space when closed. From an appearance and functionality standpoint, I'm very happy with the end result. That said, this is a serious installation project, not a light DIY build. From start to finish, the build took me roughly 6 to 8 hours, and that's with careful reading of the instructions and moving methodically. If you don't enjoy hands-on assembly or don't already have a solid tool setup, I would strongly recommend budgeting for professional installation. This is not something you want to rush. A few important things future buyers should know ahead of time: You must anchor the bed to both the wall and the floor for safety. In my case, that meant drilling into baseboards and into a concrete slab. If you're on concrete, you will need a hammer drill and masonry bits. This is not optional. The tools included are not sufficient for a smooth install, in my opinion. I used a standard power drill with an Allen wrench adapter, a socket set with deep sockets to reach bolts properly, and a hammer drill for the concrete anchors. Without these, installation would have been extremely frustrating. A second person is needed at certain steps. I completed most of the build solo, but there are moments where an extra set of hands is required for alignment and lifting. I was able to pull my fiancé in briefly when needed, but this is not a true one person job. Quality assurance issue: Some of the bolts and nuts I received were defective and would not thread properly. I had to stop the installation, contact customer service, and wait about a week for replacement hardware. Once the correct parts arrived, everything went together as expected, but it did delay the project. Customer service tip: When calling Bestar support, the phone line will disconnect if they're busy. Save yourself the frustration and use the “call me back” option instead, it works much better. All that said, once everything is installed correctly and anchored as intended, the bed feels very sturdy and well designed. This is clearly a product meant to be installed properly and permanently, not something to cut corners on. One area worth calling out is alignment of the metal bed frame during installation. This step really matters. If the frame is even slightly off when secured, you'll notice it in the final result, especially in how the pull down door lines up when closed. In my case, the door isn't perfectly aligned, and that's due to not getting that step 100 percent perfect during assembly. There is some ability to fine tune the doors from the sides afterward, and for me it's good enough. However, I can easily see this being a frustrating step for people who want everything perfectly flush and symmetrical. The instructions cover the step, but I wish they elaborated more on how critical alignment is at that point, what “good” looks like, and how small deviations can show up later. If you're very detail oriented or expect a flawless, cabinet level finish, take extra time here or have a second person helping to double check alignment before locking everything in. Bottom line: If you want a beautiful, space saving Murphy bed and are comfortable with a complex install or hiring help, this is a great product. Just be honest with yourself about the time, tools, and effort required before starting. The finished result is absolutely worth it, but the journey to get there is real work.
