The mattress unfolds easily but the foam is very , very firm. The foam is 3-31/2" when measured from the inside after expansion. We are adding a double foam mattress topper to make it more comfortable. I do like the foldability of it and think it will store easily against the closet wall. Each compartment is zippered so that the foam pieces can be removed and the quality seems good. There are Velcro tabs that I believe are to hold the sections together during storage. I wish there were Velcro tabs on each side to attach the mattress to the bed frame as it slides around on the surface of the foldable bed frame we purchased for it. It did take a couple of days for the foam to expand but with very little 'plastic' smell.
