The following towns are featured: published in American State Papers by Gales & Seaton in 1834. The American State Papers, comprising a total of thirty-eight physical volumes, contain the legislative and executive documents of Congress during the period 1789 to 1838. The collection includes documents that cover the critical historical period from 1789, to the printing of the first volume of the U.S. Serial Set in 1817. The Virginia-North Carolina boundary divides the map near the center. Suffolk, Virginia, on the bank of the Nansemond River is at the upper right. A part of the Dismal Swamp is at the right. The Black Water, Nottaway, Meherin and Chowan Rivers are at the left. The Course of the contemplated Canal leads south from Suffolk to Bennett's Creek which flows into the Chowan River.
