Should be required reading

I'd like to make this book required reading for all high school students as an antidote to the abysmally high degree of economic illiteracy in our society. It explains basic economic principles, the way that a market economy functions, and why market manipulations such as price controls very often work to the detriment of those who are supposed to benefit. Sowell's writing is straightforward and understandable, reflecting a rare degree of clarity of thinking. The book conforms to its title -- its scope is basic and does not include deeper concepts or mathematical analyses and graphs. My only complaint is that it tends toward repetitiveness in some cases, illustrating the same point from perhaps too many directions.

Basic economics Review

The book itself was very long, but pretty good at explaining economics and was able to more inadeptly explain how to understand micro and macroeconomics.

If knowledge is power, this book is a nuke.

I bought this book on a recommendation. It was described as being a must read for those who want to understand the myriad ways in which the nebulous concept of economics plays its role in our everyday lives. Whether your interest is the complex systems that govern macroeconomics, or the simple understanding of why a loaf of bread costs what it does at your local supermarket, Thomas Sowell's no nonsense, high bandwidth communication in terms the layman cam easily understand are second to none. I highly recommend this book for the student in everyone, because one only ceases to learn when he or she ceases to draw breath.
