Delta Faucet 41724-BL Transitional Concealed Screw ADA-Compliant Decorative Grab Bar, 24 inch, Flat Black

I installed two of these 24” grab bars after a contractor quoted $1300 to install them. I first installed one at the toilet with one end on a stud and used the wall anchor for the other end. The anchor was difficult to insert into the 3 1/2” wall cavity and the plastic ring did not stick to the back of the mounting plate , so it was difficult to get that tightened up. Luckily, my layout was right on for the bar to fit over the plates and the set screw to secure them. I used a ratcheting driver with hex bit after stripping one set screw. I was more weary about installing the bar on the marble tile at the shower. I located the studs on the opposite side of the wall and transferred the measurement to the shower side. Studs were 16” o.c., so plan was to catch two studs with grab bar on approximately a 45 degree angle. Here is where a template was really needed. I ended up making a template on tape adhered to the wall, traced the ends of the grab bar centered on the stud lines, and marked the holes from the mounting bracket before drilling. The top right and bottom left holes were angled to the stud, but caught. I think a set of holes that would be vertical for this arrangement would be useful. Or more holes in the grey anchor plate. In the end, it turned out sturdy and beautiful, and I'm glad I didn't screw it up.
