King HP Main Bearing Set MB5013HPSTDX Standard Size with +.001" Extra Oil Clearance Fits 1997-2013 LS-Based V8 Engines 4.8L 5.3L 5.7L 6.0L 6.2L King developed the HP Series utilizing the Alecular™ bi-metal structure. It consists of an aluminum/tin/silicon alloy top layer bonded onto a high strength steel backer. Major benefits of the Alecular structure are its ability to resist surface migration and extrusion under very high loads, including metal-to-metal contact over short durations of time. The HP series was developed for applications such as drag racing which can benefit from a harder than Babbitt top layer material to withstand high loads for short durations, yet still offer great embedabilty to protect the crankshaft journal surfaces from foreign debris. The HP series is suited for many performance applications using nodular cast iron crankshafts, such as street, strip and drift builds using factory crankshafts, as well as aftermarket crankshafts. King HP main bearings have greater eccentricity for superior oiling at high rpm, and a chamfered surface for large radii crankshafts. HP-Series bearings also feature large, chamfered oil holes and 1/2 grooving for improved oiling to withstand high-rpm applications. Alecular™ benefits: • The top layer can be squeezed and worn up to .010” (vs. tri-metal .0005”) without damaging crankshaft journals. • Its Vickers hardness of 40 withstands short duration high loads better than Babbitt. • The thick top layer provides better macro-particle embedability vs. a typical tri-metal Babbitt (.015” thickness vs .0005”). • The Alecular temperature threshold is almost 30% greater than tri-metal (450ºF vs.350ºF).
