I installed this in our 2 car garage that has minimal insulation on the west facing double metal door. Even on cooler days when the sun hits the door it turns into a giant radiator and heats up the garage well into triple digits and makes it unusable for working or man-cave stuff. In the Summer the Texas heat hits hard. I installed an extra support bracket outside as this thing is heavy and our windows are not really designed to take such a large unit. I'm sure the engineers tested the brackets supplied but I wanted extra. If I was installing it on a second or higher floor I wouldn't feel happy with just the brackets supplied. I'm not just worried about the weight, but Texas winds. Installation is at intermediate skill levels IMO and while all the casing installation is a one-man job you will need a second set of arms to lift the unit into the case once you've fitted it. The different brands are pretty much the same to install While we are not at summer temperatures yet, we have had a couple of 95f days, and the garage got up to 105f on the day I installed before turning the unit on to test. The air coming out was icy cold and the temperature in the room dropped to the set 70f within 20 minutes. I wish our home HVAC would blow air this cold. If it can cool down my garage 600sqft +/- it would have no problem cooling an insulated apartment or single-story small house. It says it's rated for up to 700sqft, but I think they are being modest. Operating is easy and the thermostat is the remote control so you can have it reach the desired temperature where you are sitting. It also dehumidifies. Bottom line, this unit does the job. Pros. Powerful, icy cold. Energy efficient and plugs into a regular wall outlet. Cons. When not in use there is no sound barrier like a closed window.
