Good for birds / bad for squirrels
Birds of all sizes can eat off this. I've had this type for over 15 years. This was only the 3rd one I had to buy. However, I just learned that if Squirrels eat too much sunflower seeds, they don't get enough variety in their diets. So I had to get a squirrel detourant one. They can still eat out of it - BUT, they can't tip it to the side and dump the whole thing out like this one. They are paint and design-able, as long as the paint isn't dangerous to wildlife. I left mine unpainted and they last for years through all kinds of weather, outside 207.

It can be heavy when fully filled, which I didn't think about, so we had to go higher to find sturdy limbs. Since she is the only provider of seed, she is seeing a lot more activity

Great for hungry birds.
These are great. Cost effective and provide the service intended as long as is healthy for the birds to continue using without concern of spreading disease. Used the smaller house for chikadees who buzz in and grab a bite to take into the trees to eat...back and forth. But then came the finch who like to take a seat and not budge until thet have had enough. So the bigger one for them.
