I am a new SPARK reviewer and this review is about Hefty Quart Slider bags. I am a “batch” cook, so I will prepare chicken, hamburger, etc. in bulk and then freeze it in meal size packages. I began doing this as a young wife to minimize the mess, time spend preparing entrees and to always have an entire ready to reheat in the freezer for a quick meal. I found that it only takes a few minutes to make “side” dishes to complement these frozen entrees. I continue to do the same thing as a single, retiree because it not only minimizes the mess, time spent cooking it also allows me to buy food in bulk to save money. I would recommend “batch” cooking to everyone – dieters, college students, young professionals, couples, parents and retirees like me. The key to successful “batch” cooking is having an easy, safe and cheap storage container for your food. Hefty storage and freezer slider bags are ideal as they come in a variety of sizes to meet your needs. I will be reviewing both the Hefty “Freezer” version and the “Storage” version. The only differences that are apparent when you compare the two items is that the “Freezer” version has a blue label on the box and the slider strip is a matching blue. It also contains only 15 bags per package. The “Freezer” sliders feel like they are made of a slightly heavier material than the “Storage” version and according to the specifications it is 35% thicker. The “Storage” slider has a dark pink label and slider strip. It does feel like it is made of a thinner material and the package contains 20 sliders. Both sliders are the same size 7 by 8 inches. The size is just slightly larger than a “Sandwich” slider, so will work perfectly for slightly larger sandwiches or other lunch items that do not quite fit in the standard “sandwich” slider. Although the instructions indicate that you can reheat/defrost items in the sliders I never do that because I am one of those people that tends to overheat the food and end up with a melted slider. I also cool cooked food in the refrigerator before placing them in the sliders for freezing. Give “batch” cooking a try AND be sure to use slider bags for quick, safe and easy storage. Keep a marking pen on your refrigerator to write the date, description and even the calories of the food right on the slider label.
