CASP Chinese Headlight Replacements from AKKON. What a disappointment! Generally speaking, the Chinese are excellent in mimicking and duplicating US OEM designs. Sadly, not this time, at least not under the brand name "CASP". These headlamps are comprised of two main plastic components; a reflective part at the rear and a see-through lens portion in front. Rather than gluing these plastic components together to maintain a solid, weather-proof integrity, these CASP copies tried, unsuccessfully, to copy the OEM method of sealing, from the outside only, with a non-hardening gray mastic material. Problem is that this mastic is improperly or inaccurately applied. Pricing was fair, packaging exceptionally good and shipping from the AKKON servicing distributor was phenominal. Thinking to treat myself by installing the new headlights on Independence Day, I started by removing the originals in the same way that one must do when replacing burned out bulbs. I switched over all bulbs to the right (passenger) side replacement and went to install the unit, only to find the lens and reflector portions literally coming apart in my hands. Close inspection revealed areas where the gray mastic did not bridge the gap between lens and reflector, areas of excess mastic hanging out beyond the black plastic weatherstripping and areas where there was no mastic at all. Next I made a close inspection of the left (driver) side replacement. The mastic misapplication was nowhere near as bad as the passenger side but nothing that could ever be trusted for keeping water out of the assembly. For now, the somewhat oxidized OEM originals have been reinstalled. I have no way of knowing whether their main components are glued beneath the outer mastic seal but they certainly have maintained integrity and do not leak. My only hope now is that Walmart will accept the return of these clearly defective goods and that AKKON finds a more reliable source than CASP. These defective headlights do not warrant any form of star rating but the one star minimum was required in order to be acknowledged.
