An absolute anchorage was a traditional need of orthodontist for more than a century. Invention of temporary anchorage devices has made it possible in complex and critical cases of anchorage management. There are many pioneers who have diagnosed, designed and implemented the said technology in the clinical practices; Dr. Junji Sugawara from Japan is one of them, he started his work in 1992 and has worked for almost two decades in this field. This book is mainly about the development of Skeletal Anchorage System (SAS). The SAS is a recently developed orthodontic anchorage modality utilizing titanium miniplates and monocortical screws that are temporarily fixed in the maxilla/mandible for absolute orthodontic anchorage and its biomechanics, its application in patients to various types of malocclusion in daily practice. This book is also about adopting a new treatment modality for surgical patients: surgery first, followed by orthodontic alignment. This approach was made possible three dimensional movement of the entire dentition in non-growing patients.
