Thomas Bell arrived in the Carolina Colony in the 1740s to serve as minister of the Gospel. A String of Bells relates the joys and sorrows of his working-class Irish-Catholic Bell descendants and their service to God, country, and family through war and peace, poverty and prosperity. It follows great-grandson Julius Bell and the Beaufort (SC) Artillery during the Civil War as well as the family he would later raise in Savannah, GA.
