Fun Introduction to Story Writing

This book is going to be a great help to me as a beginning writer. I haven't finished reading it yet, but the first part presents some interesting ideas, such as how stories are structured. Linear and branching stories make sense, but there are also spiral, meandering, and explosive stories. He draws out lots of ideas from movies and drama, which makes sense given his background in the film industry. I like his frequent use of bullet points. it makes it easy to read ahead. This looks like one I am going to finish.

John Truby's The Anatomy of Story covers everything you need to understand storytelling—and does it in a way that's clear and approachable. It's not just for writers; anyone interested in stories, whether you're a filmmaker, teacher, or just curious, can gain something from it. Reading it feels like getting advice from a favorite uncle or big brother—wise, practical, and warm. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to better understand how stories work.
