I actually bought this not because of a little child but because my fridge door would not stay shut and honestly till after holidays can't afford a new fridge. I really did like this very very easy to install no drilling at all. The strap was a great length for fitting seeing i have the type of fridge with freezer on bottom. Everything was made with good material and as a child lock i say it would work as my 17 yr old was confused but once you know what buttons to push it's actually easy and not a pain to get getting in and out of. Plus liked that came in black as my fridge is black
