Through backstories of various characters, the reader embarks on a journey colored by infidelity, illegitimacy, rape, racism, sexism, sibling rivalry, death, and the challenges of living with ill-advised decisions and their impact beyond the antagonist. At its core, Unfinished Business is about family and what it means to a cast of characters whose wants, needs, and desires provide the themes inter-woven into the fabric of this narrative.
