It was designed in 1939 and used in the following year. It is a twin-engine midship with a three-point chassis, double rudder and a wide hull. It was the first bomber that could take off from an aircraft carrier after modifications. The highest profile outings for the B-25 during the Second World War, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Doolittle came on the attack on the Japanese islands in April 1942. A squadron of these planes raided Tokyo. Airplanes of this type were also delivered to the Soviet Union as part of Lend-Lease aid.
