Good evening so-called young modern hard-rock bands, class is in session and Def Leppard is the teacher!!!!!
If you want to know how to write hard rock songs, look no further than 'Songs from the Sparkle Lounge'. I have been a rabid Def Leppard fan since 'Pyromania' and these guys deliver the rock-and-roll goods. Every vocal, background vocal, guitar riff, guitar solo, bass line, and drum beat is pristine. There is not one bad song on the CD.
Joe's lead vocals sound tight and perfect and the Queen-like background vocal harmonies are dead-on. Phil and Vivians' guitars are thick, well-layered, and very pronounced. Sav and Ricks' driving rhythm section is rock-solid. Being a bass player, it was very nice to really hear Sav's bass come through the mix.
It is very difficult to pick the best tunes but, in my opinion, 'Go', 'Nine Lives', 'C'Mon, C'Mon', 'Cruise Control', and 'Come Undone' are my favorites.
Def Leppard has always given the world incredible music. Many of today's rock bands can only talk the talk but Def Leppard can not only talk the talk but it walks the walk.
The bottom line: 'Songs from the Sparkle Lounge' breathes much needed life back into hard rock!!!
