On July 2, 1993 the ITALFOR Command in Somalia ordered to its troops the operation "Canguro 11" in the district of Haliwaa, a neighborhood north of Mogadishu where a check point called "Pasta" was located. While the operation was being executed, a sudden popular uprising broke out. The protest turned soon into a real battle, and the situation worsened to such an extent that the Italian forces were forced to withdraw after nine hours of fighting. That event has represented for the Italian armed forces the first involvement in combat since the end of the Second World War.

With this testimony, the author wants above all to pay tribute to the Fallen of that battle, to honor their sacrifice and ensure that their memory is not forgotten.
