From bestselling author J'nell Ciesielski comes a captivating World War I romance where a spirited American socialite and a wounded Scottish laird find unexpected love amid secrets and sacrifice in war-torn Scotland.
With her signature blend of rich historical detail, heartfelt romance, and vivid storytelling, Ciesielski delivers "an atmospheric, engrossing tale perfect for fans of Downton Abbey and Somewhere in France." (Aimie K. Runyan)
American socialite Lily Durham is known for enjoying one moment to the next, with little regard for the consequences of her actions. But just as she is banished overseas to England as a "cure" for her frivolous ways, the Great War breaks out and wreaks havoc. She joins her cousin in nursing the wounded at a convalescent home deep in the wilds of Scotland at a crumbling castle where its laird is less than welcoming.
For Alec MacGregor, Kinclavoch Castle is both his legacy and his prison. With his reputation tarnished by whispers of cowardice and mounting debts threatening everything he holds dear, Alec opens his doors to wounded soldiers as a final act of duty. He prefers to remain in the shadows, a quiet guardian of the castle's crumbling walls--until Lily arrives, all energy and light, turning his ordered world upside down.
But Kinclavoch holds more than broken soldiers and bitter memories. As mysterious accidents threaten the castle's fragile future, Lily and Alec are forced into an uneasy partnership to uncover the truth. With every moment they spend together, their differences fade, replaced by a growing connection neither can ignore. Yet with the weight of war and duty pressing on their shoulders, love may prove the most dangerous distraction of all.
Beauty Among Ruins, with a romance at its center that reminds readers of Beauty and the Beast and a setting that immerses readers in World War I Scotland, masterfully blends all the elements that define historical romance. As such, it is highly recommended for fans of historical fiction, mystery, and romance alike.
The included discussion questions provide the perfect opportunity for book clubs to explore themes of love, resilience, and redemption. Whether you're a fan of historical romance or simply seeking a story that lingers long after the final page, this captivating tale promises to enchant.

Engrossing Historical Fiction
After reading the Socialite I became a fan of this author and was anxious to read Beauty Among Ruins. This book does not disappoint and had me engrossed. I loved watching Lily develop and grow throughout without changing her sparkling personality. The castle in Scotland was a wonderful setting and the descriptive wording had me wanting to clean and restore it to its glory days. My heart bled for the wounded soldiers and I found it interesting that they were housed in the castle to recuperate. The history involved in the telling was fascinating to me as I love learning while enjoying a great story. This author does a wonderful job of blending fact with fiction to make an enjoyable read from start to finish. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
Loved this story
In Beauty Among Ruins, Lily Durham is a rich American girl who is shipped over seas to stay with relatives. Before her return trip is scheduled, World War II begins, making it unsafe for her to return to America. She decides to join her cousin Bertie in becoming a nurse to help the convalescing soldiers, and the girls are sent to Scotland to Kinclavoch Castle, the estate of the MacGregors, to work at the makeshift hospital that has been set up in the castle. Alec MacGregor is the head of the MacGregor family since his fathers passing, and hes doing all he can to save his family from ruin and from losing all they have thanks to debt his father left and the deteriorating state of the ancient castle. And now hes also housing soldiers, but he wants to do his part since his own injury prevents him from joining the fight. Angry, stressed-out, and shut off from the world, Alec is unprepared for the upheaval that the arrival of a lively American girl will bring. As one disaster strikes after the next, will Alec be able to save his family home? And will Lily be able to help Alec see his own worth? I really loved this story. From beginning to end, I didnt want to put the book down. I thought the characters were very well developed. Lily was relatable and funny, and Alec was moody and emotional. The chemistry between Lily and Alec was slow-building but tangible from the start. I enjoyed the element of mystery throughout the story. And I appreciate that this was a clean romance. This is the first book Ive read by this author, but after reading this one, I will definitely be on the lookout for her other titles. *I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Beauty Among Ruins
I have had the pleasure of reading and enjoying books by J'nell Ciesielski previously. I was not disappointed with this one. It is by far my favorite that I have read by her to date. It was so very good. I loved Lily and Alecs right from the start. It had a mixture of history, mystery, suspense, danger, adventure and romance. I devoured this book in just a few hours. I could not find myself putting it down until the very end. Beauty Among Ruins will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I am eagerly waiting for more releases by J'nell Ciesielski in the future. I highly recommend this one for readers who enjoy reading clean historical fiction and romance. I do not think it should be missed. I received Beauty Among Ruins from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
