It really works! And it is smooth. I am 145 pounds, a senior, but the purple band was perfect for offering just the right amount of assist. I was able to do 10 chin-ups the very first time using it, as opposed to just 0-4 without, because without the band it would really strain my ligaments and tendons in my elbows, etc.
