Vitamins. No cooking. Servings better than most.
I got this in case of a natural disasters, or other situations where there might be no power. I tried one as a sample, and it's about like a commercial breakfast cereal. It lasts for years, and requires no cooking. If you're going to throw down money for emergency food, this is about the only one I've seen with any vitamin content. Also, you need to divide the serving size by two to be realistic. (6 one cup servings instead of 12 half cup servings) All the “survival” food sellers publish ridiculously small portions to increase the number they can put in their ads. Some vendors are much worse than Nutrient Survival about this, so I didn't knock them a star over it. So their 1/2 cup serving = 240 Calories, with 12 servings per can is 240 X 12 =2,880 Total Calories. Divide the calories by the price (currently 2880/32.69 = 88.1 or about a 88 calories per dollar. Which doesn't sound like much till you need 2,000 of them per day. Most people will want 2,500. I did the same calculation on another, very popular brand (Not Nutrient Survival) which has “meals” with virtually no vitamin content, and sodium levels through the roof. For a couple of meals requiring cooking, I got 42 calories per dollar. Their larger “weekender pack" was 28 calories per dollar and I then added up all the calories for all the servings in their “bulk” pail (did it twice to be sure) and got 20.64 calories per dollar. So you really need to watch out. Calories per serving times number of servings = Total Calories. Divide Total Calories by price.
