I'll be honest, I didn't expect a Bluey record to hit me right in the heart like this one did—but Rug Island sure enough did. This limited orange vinyl is just plain fun from the moment you drop the needle. It feels like sittin' on the living room floor with the kids, toys scattered everywhere, and your worries parked at the door. This album is the follow-up to Dance Mode! and it brings 16 brand-new tracks pulled from seasons 1, 2, and 3. Every song feels like its own little adventure, just like the episode Rug Island itself—where kids get to be kids and grown folks remember how to be young again. You can hear that imagination come alive in every track. There's a little bit of everything on here. “Octopus” rocks harder than I expected, especially with King Stingray jumpin' in. “Fairytale” has that old-school 80s synth vibe that made me smile, and “Explorers” sounds like somethin' you'd sing sailing the open water. “Muffin Drive” is pure chaos in the best way, and “Turtle Boy” is simple, sweet, and just plain tender. Even the vocal version of the Bluey Theme Tune feels fresh and fun. The vinyl itself is beautiful—that orange color really pops—and the sleeve art is a nice touch. I love that the back connects with the other albums to make one big picture of the Heeler house. That kind of detail tells me this was made with care. The sound quality is great on this and the packaging is so cute. The songs are great background music for when my son is playing.
