The novel,"THE RAZOR AND THE WILD LOTUS: A NOVEL OF LOVE AND
LONGING" is the story of a LOVE----- deep, passionate, and dedicated, to be
termed'a bond between two souls'.It's not something of the stock phrases like""I
'm mad about you"" or""I have fallen for the babe"".The protagonist or the
hero, besotted by a bewitching beauty(as he calls his fairy-girl), goes on desperately
longing for her and wins an impossible battle in his life.Based on a real- life experience,
the story narrates an epic saga of love between two opposite irreconcilables. It's
a ' love -in- reality' between a highly-qualified, higher-caste management boy(
Casteism in Indian Perspective) and a smart, intelligent and attractive school -girl
of eleventh standard, belonging to a lower -caste, with a low-esteem in society.
They both are involved in a life- long crusade against the notorious caste system.
Drawn to each other, the duo go for a hasty marriage against all odds, but, from
the very day of their marriage, they are humiliated, his family harassed, and
they are virtually hounded by supporters of caste -supremacy.Clashes ensue
between communities instigated by this single incident. The boy's parents
refuse to accept the girl and she is magically vanished from the map of the
world of the boy.Exasperated after failing a massive search, the boy leaves
home, his employment, and one day, out of a desperation, sits for the UPSC
examination, passes out and joins the rigorous training for Indian Police Service
which he successfully clears and gets posted as an Additional Superintendent
of Police in a hilly region. Here he meets a batchmate, Bidisha, his silent
admirer, though the deep wounds in the boy's heart doesn't sustain the relation. To
his tragedy, Bidisha dies in a combat -operation, leaving for the boy, further wounds.
One fine morning, he, while being escorted to the market, he is surprised to
discover his ""bewitching girl' as a teacher in a missionary school.
