After the tragic plane crash that effectively ended Lynyrd Skynyrd's original run, the bandmembers got back into music during the early '80s via various solo projects and collaborations. 1999's SOLO FLYTES collects highlights from the Rossington-Collins Band and the Artimus Pyle Band. An added bonus is an early recording from their late guitarist Steve Gaines--the outstanding "One in the Sun." Guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins kept the tough southern rock of Skynyrd in tact with their union in the late '70's/early '80s, as evidenced by such highlights as the acapella "Pine Box," the album-opening "Prime Time," and an electrifying live recording of "Don't Misunderstand Me."
