“The Scalp” Remington’s fourth bronze depicts a War Chief Sioux warrior who is proud and defiant. It was copyrighted on Dec. 8, 1898 under the name “The Triumph”. Remington’s Scalp bronze depicts an Indian after a victorious battle holding up his prize. The Scalp is the artist's first sculptural depiction of an Indian subject. In the work, Remington's great respect for the Native American warrior of the Old West is frankly captured. Remington has rendered a Sioux warrior in a dignified and victorious pose, heroically placed atop a horse that is in mid-stride, coming to an energetic halt. The sculpture is cast in the incredible detail that was the Remington hallmark. Cast in the traditional "Lost Wax Process" with magnificent patina finish that is hand-applied for highlights that create natural variations in texture and color. The sculpture is then hand-rubbed to bring out the awesome detail and highlights. The sculpture is cast in 100% American bronze and mounted on a high quality marble base with an etched brass plate.
