Humans become secret space-alien guardians

Excellent book! Summary = Humans become secret space-alien guardians of other, less advanced, intelligent species. As a veteran reader of much science fiction (and other fiction), I have my pet peeves Too many major characters, too many inter-woven story lines, too many custom-made buzz-words, too long and detailed (the work in total), and too complex of a geography and-or technical background (made up) facts. This book has NONE of these things! The author cross-maps the geography of Earth to DoubleAll, names-wise. When European explorers and colonists built in the New World, they had endless New York, New Jersey, etc., place-names, based on the Old World. In the fictional scenario here described, you could BET that Earthlings would give Earth-based names to supercontinents, ocean, tribes, nations, and even to the natives that they contact, and to their own avatars! The Earthlings / avatars speak telepalish, a mix of English and telepathy, to one another, as opposed to speaking to the natives in their own native tongues (the avatars do both, speak both, but you and I, the reader, need not learn ONE single word of the native languages). Since the book is written off of telepalish, of course! So there are NO endless geographical and other bizarre proper nouns to remember, as you read this book! This book is also funny A fair amount of humor is based on cultural allusions, often using the cultural, geographical, and historical cross-mapping just now described. Also allusions to other fiction, movies, and songs.
