Damned If I Do (Paperback)

This book was both an interesting and refreshing read. I appreciate that the author put the focus on Marcy's self growth instead of selling the book only on the back of romance, though you do get a nice dose of it. I think you get to know more about the characters as you would people: you learn more about them the longer you know them. I LOVE the witty quips of Marcy (aka Mercy for those of you that know), the spiciness of Pixie, and the fierceness of Tituba; as well as many of the other interestingly defined characters such as Horace, Rune, Archer, and Ellie. I believe Aimee, the author, approached many topics in a way for you to connect to them without being overwhelmed by them. The way the different interactions and relationships are written compare with how I believe many of us process and engage with our own unique dynamics in reality. I believe this book also shows that even in our darkest moments we all can have a spark of resilience within ourselves, sparks of defiance against those to attempt to manipulate us into something we're not, sparks of hope when opening ourselves up to the support and love surrounding us (even when it's not family), and sparks of strength to prepare us for what comes next.
