The budget label Laserlight has unearthed an excellent set of Earl Hines piano solos recorded ten years after his rediscovery. Hines was one of the true originals, a chance-taking pianist who loved to play with time and always seemed to make it back safely from his breathtaking flights. He stretches out on six standards (including "Once in a While," "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams," and "Don't Take Your Love from Me") and takes a vocal on his composition "So Can I." This is excellent music that is frequently quite exciting. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
