Many people use these bungs with all types of steel tubing with no problem because the bung is much thicker than the tubing it works well.

Normal mild steel welding rod/filler/wire can be used to weld these.

CORRECTLY DIMENSIONED -thick enough so it won't warp when welding, CORRECT LENGTH. Beware some other bungs or nuts are to thin,

they will warp and leak or ruin the threads and they are a big pain to weld to the pan.
