I was happy to find this little lantern at Walmart. (this lantern is now available all over Amazon too, whereas a couple months ago, it wasn't.) It took FOREVER to get here from China: months, and arrived even later than promised. i was considering a UCO brand candle lantern (cheapest is almost $30, brass version is almost $60). I found this one for about $11. After i ordered it, i found cheaper ones. im sure it was pennies to make in China, but i got the look of brass (sort of--its aluminum, coated with a brassy metalic yellow paint--no bad smell or detectable funes though) at about 1/6 the price of brass UCO so happy about that. Mine came with one perfumey parafin tealight which i did not use. they say that keeping a spare candle in your car can be a livesaver. A little candle can warm the interior of your car tby 10° or so. Also, i like to car camp, so a charming little candle lantern is a sweet bit of gear to have anyway. I get a box of 36 genuine beeswax Blue Corn tealight candles (beware, many candles advertised as bees wax are NOT. If the price seems too good to be true, it is) there are no beeswax bargains You have to buy the expensive ones. i use beeswax because they don't poison you with parrafin or other fumes in the enclosed space of your car interior. And they smell naturally and subtly nice, like a little bit of honey. There's almost no smoke if you trim the wick to 1/4" before burning and your lantern hangs level. I bought the $7 UCO lantern reflector which focuses the candlelight directionally so you can read by candlelight if your eyes are good. To make the reflectir fit, i drilled a line of holes in the top of this lantern, creating a slit for the reflector plate to hang from. The glass part of the lantern is not attached, so could fall and break when you open it up to change candle. I secured it with a bit of packing tape. Not permanent, but good enough for a while since the candle never makes the lantern very hot and so doesnt melt the tape or cause stinky burnt tape fumes. This very cute, tiny lantern and a stash of beeswax tealights live in my glovebox now. Also, i chose the tealight lantern over the taller cylindrical candle lantern because i keep it all in the glovebox. candles, like lip balm, melt in a hot car, but with tealights in an aluminum cup, it doesnt matter too much if they melt, as long as you store them upright and flat on the bottom of your glovebox. its the perfect in-car system. you can get a flat box of 6 or 8 beeswax tealights from whole foods to keep in your car and refill it as needed from the better priced, larger box of tealights as needed.
