These are exactly what my son wanted - I used it as a gift (holiday time), and it's functional...two birds, once stone! The color is a dark black, which works well. It stretches around the back of his head, and the lining keeps his ears warm. The wire folds which makes it easy to store, but you can feel a bit of the wire on the ears. It did not bother my son though, and he's happy to have something to protect his ears from the cold.
