Great Resource

One Word For Today For Spirit Filled Living is an excellent ninety day devotional which focuses on one word for each day. I love the study of one word and looking at scripture for that word. Each day features a word, scripture verse, short devotional, reflection time, prayer time, declare time, and action item. This devotional has more to challenge you than a regular devotional. There are ninety words to read about. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review for this book which I was happy to do. I highly recommend this book.

90 DAYS OF GOD'S WORDS

“Each day you will focus on one word that will guide your attention toward the Lord in the context of the biblical theme for that day,” states the introduction in Gretchen Rodriguez and David Sluta's book, One Word for Today for Spirit-Filled Living: A 90-Day Devotional ~ What ~ This one-hundred-and-ninety-two-page hardbound targets men and women who want to concentrate on one word a day for three months and how they relate to God. After an ownership page, introduction, and table of contents, each of ninety words covers two pages. With a Bible verse or two written out at the top of the left side of the pages, followed are several paragraphs correlating the day's word to a personal application. The right sides of the pages include a comment or two under Reflect, Pray, Declare, and Act. Using mainly the English Standard Version of the Holy Bible, the KJV, NIV, NKJV, NLT, TPT, and WEB are also referenced. It comes with an attached ribbon marker. These ninety devotions are meant to be read under two minutes as inspirational meditation of the Scriptures. Some of the various words of the days are Closer, Hope, Work, Ask, Seek, Come, Obedience, Wisdom, Faithful, Honor, Persevere, Approachable, Full, Raised, Ablaze, Unchanging, and Keep. The ending has a special invitation. ~ Why ~ With one word a day programs, one can focus on a specific word for twenty-four hours. I like that this is a devotional about Jesus and how looking toward Him throughout the day makes us become more spirit-filled. One chapter I appreciated was Number 11, Bless, which has Psalm 103:1 NKJV written out. The devotion reminds us not to come to God demanding or asking for something but to bless the Lord throughout the day by honoring, thanking, and praying to Him. The Reflect section asks what it would look like to invest a day only blessing the Lord with attitude and actions. The Pray is about desiring the right motives when we bless God. The Declare is “I am a blessing to God,” and the Act is to ask the Holy Spirit to show us how to bless the Trinity. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will not understand why we need a devotional that reminds us of God throughout the day. The book is limited in its content and not in-depth teaching. Others may prefer daily Bible reading or a yearly devotional that does not cover only twelve weeks. ~ Wish ~ While this is a lovely gift book for a friend or self who likes to have a word a day to dwell on, it may not be enough for someone who wants to learn more from Scripture. I wish the eternal plan of salvation and its related prayer explained it in more detail. ~ Want ~ If you are looking for a compact, simplistic daily Biblical devotional that covers a word a day for three months, this is a nice reminder, but being more saturated in the Word of God may be more helpful. Thanks to Chosen for this complimentary book that I am freely reviewing.
