Dometic CF80 12V Electric Powered Cooler, Fridge Freezer

We bought this to use as a fridge on our sailboat. While it was a 40' boat, it was old and sparse. This was going to be our fridge. Moved to a bigger boat with full systems and kept this until we squared things away. Our current freezer needs work so will convert that to a fridge and use this as a freezer. This box is amazing. Ice cream stays hard even in tropical weather. Best investment made! Love the dual power modes and the switching is perfect. Should this one ever die beyond repair, we won't hesitate to get another. Well worth the money.

I had been looking to add refrigeration to my older cruising sailboat. Initially I considered the icebox conversion units, but there were three problems: 1- loss of an icebox for storage, 2- the installation pain (and they are not known for reliability) 3- the cost. Instead, I purchased a Dometic CF-050. I was able to keep my icebox for storage of dry goods. Installation was a non-issue - I had spave under the Nav. Station, where it fit perfectly. If it needs service, I won't have to play contortionist to troubleshoot the issue. The cost was about 1/3 that of an ice-box conversion unit. As a bonus, I can keep the unit if I ever sell my boat! The amp draw is low, and it seems to hold temperature well. After 2 years I would do it again!
