Good light-use pack

This review is for the Escapist 20, which I bought in 2014 to do long-distance hikes in the UK. I used this as a daily carry bag for walking the Cotswold Way (105 miles, 2014), Hadrian's Wall (85 miles, 2016) and Shakespeare's Way (65 miles, 2018). I've also used the bag intermittently for many other day hikes, and have loaned it a couple times to cyclist friends. It's big enough to pack rain gear, food, and day-use necessities. The rain cover works- including a few days hiking through driving rain. It has proven to be very durable and rugged, and has no signs of zipper or fabric failure. I'll keep using this bag as long as it lasts (I expect several more years), and probably buy a newer similar model to replace if it ever does wear out.

Escapist 18

My intended use is for mountain biking and day hikes. Storage capacity appears to be adequate enough for those needs. Like the color. Like the Osprey logo on bag. The pouch on the shoulder strap is cool but rather small doesn't look like you can fit much in there other than a pocket knife or a small canister of mace, lip balm, snack bar. Doesn't look like a smartphone would fit in there other than a old school flip phone. Not sure if I'm going to use a hydration bladder at first or just a water bottle or two. The pouches on the side of the pack looks like they would hold a water bottle something like a 20 or 24oz bottle. My only concern is the zippers are not all metal. The part that you grab with your fingers is some kind of utility or paracord with a small plastic end piece which may eventually wear and break. But it's going to be awhile before I can use and put it to test. It's winter here probably won't be able to until sometime in April.

yes

Am a 5'7" 120lb female. Bought s/m, blue. 18 L. This pack adjusts very well for its size. Prompt delivery. Has mesh hip belts, load lifters and side adjustment straps.... rare for this sized pack; you can really customize fit. Have a larger pack for multiple-day trips. Does not come with hydration bladder...but. There are two pockets externally on each side (your right and left) for liquids, shoes or wet gear. Not too large; not too heavy or wide. Nifty rain cover in bottom pocket. Good for extended day hikes, bike rides, and travel. Really like the top, smaller zip pocket for glasses, passport, cash, pencil, keys or smallish items you don't want falling to bottom of pack; place to hang rear red light for safety and hang straps on both front right and left shoulder straps for your shades or glasses. You could carry on plane and tuck under seat. Great fit. Only (small) gripe? When I dial in my hip belts, and clip both sides together, there is a whole lotta left over strap. (perhaps if I wore over my rain gear or jacket fit would be larger? ) Do I cut excess off, let excess dangle, pin excess or... just get annoyed by them?
