The box is clamshell style, larger than a regular Bluray case. The discs are stacked on two clips per side, making it more difficult to get to the lower discs, with pages you can flip with a similar clip style. Bluray discs on both sides of the pages. This is a necessary evil, as the alternative is individual cases for the discs, which would make the series take up a whole shelf.
The transfer of the source material is very high quality. I really enjoy seeing everything brought up as cleanly as possible without trying to "fix" anything. The source material is a masterclass in film making techniques, and pretending anyone who wasn't directly involved in the original could do better would be silly to think. I'm very happy this copy does not try and alter the source material, giving probably the cleanest version of the Twin Peaks [Television Show] that has ever been released the ability to really shine. It is not soft, which has been my issue with many of the digital copies and previous physical releases I have viewed. It also includes the third season, which was released in 2017 on Showtime. The third season was released in a higher fidelity than the original series, so this is a very clean version of that.
The series, for newcomers, is probably not the easiest to stomach. It is my favorite show of all time, hands down. The show is full of mystery and intrigue, and humor. Twin Peaks is a literal soap opera full of violence, drugs, sexual situations, and dark and demonic/otherworldly themes. Cheating, betrayal, revenge, all key components in the drama behind the murder mystery basis of the show.
This release does not include "Fire Walk With Me" or "The Missing Pieces." The theatrical prequel sequel to the series or its 90-minute extra footage release. This was actually preferential to me as "The Criterion Collection" already has a great release of the film and its counterpart on Bluray. A release I highly recommend for anyone who enjoyed the series and wants more.
If I had one complaint, it would be that the plastic box makes the release feel less special than it would with a nice full high-quality slip-cover. Very minor complaint, and wouldn't stop me from buying the exact same release again in 4K if they ever shoot for the moon and make one.
I have wanted to own a copy of this series in this fidelity for a long time, and this copy has gone far beyond my expectations. It's very worth your time if you are a long-time fan, or a great way to get into the series if you haven't seen it already.
