Essential Oil of Patchouli is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves of the Patchouli plant, whose botanical name is Pogostemon Cablin and the plant is native to tropical regions of Asia. Patchouli essential oil is unique in that it improves with age. The oil has been popular in perfume industry for a long time and has a history of being used as a natural insect repellent. It's now becoming increasingly sought after for its wide-ranging therapeutic uses as well. The oil is astringent, antiseptic, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory and mildly sedative. It has been found to be effective in relieving anxiety, and also treats a number of skin problems, including wounds and infections.
