Amazing Product

I've been using UPS units throughout my career, and I've never seen one this good and this feature-laden. It has 8 plug receptacles on the rear side of a nice, compact enclosure that's no bigger than some of the older ones that lay flat. 4 are surge protected and 4 are battery backed up. It handles 1000 volt-amps, which is better than average for a unit its size, where you usually see 500, 650, or maybe 800, so you can plug some stuff into it! This unit is part of a line that also offers an 850, 1350, and 1500VA types. This 1000 basically can provide 600 watts for the duration of battery backup power. One great feature that I haven't seen before on my smaller units is a sensitivity control, so you get to decide whether just a fluctuation can send it into battery mode. Another rare feature for this range of unit is a fantastic front panel display that shows whether it's getting power, how much of the unit's capacity is in use, the status of the battery charge, overload indication, a counter for recorded events, an indicator to show if the unit is compensating for ordinary low voltage, the actual input voltage, the actual output voltage, and other things. I'm in love with this thing! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Awesome backup system with nice LCD

This is an upgrade from my old backup UPS system. While I've had this only a few days, it's so easy to set up and use and feels at least the same as my old backup system. I like the LCD that would show me the error code. I like the ability to channel thru different electrical and battery readings. I love the fact I can run PowerChute on my computer to monitor the battery backup. I filled in all 8 outlets. My two monitors, desktop computer, videophone, and both modem and router are all on backup. My network cable is routed thru the cable protection system. I haven't had an outage yet but my previous backup system handles it well so I expect it to handle well in a future power outage. The 20 minutes will save my system. I like this UPS, but...

I like this UPS. It works just as it should. I would recommend it to almost anyone for use with their LCD or OLED TV, computer, small to mid-size stereo, etc. However, I would also suggest that these same people consider the slightly more expensive but slightly more powerful BX1500M or BR1500MS models; they offer more capacity, more runtime for similar loads and also possess a few features that may be worth the added expense. The BX1000 arrives very packaged and contains the required cables for RG-59 video connection and also a USB to RJ-45 cable for PowerChute™ shutdown control (note that no cable for ethernet connection is included). A brief instruction booklet is also included. A very simple process is documented that describes how to connect the single battery cell for operation (it arrives disconnected for safe transit). The LCD display is moderately bright in a slightly cool white color. It can be set to dim completely (after 60 seconds of inactivity) in power saving mode. However the three buttons above the LCD, which have an odd, slightly warm white appearance, CANNOT be set to dim. I think this should addressed in future versions. I also wish that the battery door could be moved from the bottom of the UPS to the side of the UPS so that it's not required that you have to flip the UPS on its side to change the battery. I think the BR1500MS or BR1000MS model is a much better UPS, however. It is often available for only 15% to 25% more and offers a *much* better LCD display, better battery replacement convenience and also has a front panel +5V USB charge port. Unless money is the only consideration, I recommend that you seriously consider purchasing either of those two models over this one. You will be happy that you did!
