What type of anchor should you choose?
Most kayakers use a 1.5lb to 3.5lb folding grapnel anchor, which is easy to store. For calm lakes or rivers with little or no wind or current, a smaller anchor is generally ok, but for areas with surge, wind and current, a heavier anchor is better.
The size of anchor you need will depend on the wind and water conditions as well as the weight of your gear. A folding grapnel anchor provides the most security to grasp the bottom to keep your kayak still.
If you're going to be in significant current, you can use a 3.5 lb anchor with plenty of rode. For typical fishing on the flats, the 1.5 lb model serves you well.
For a fishing kayak, having 3 to 5 times the depth of water in anchor line will accommodate the most common anchoring situations. So in 10′ of water, having between 30′ to 50′ would be adequate. If you’re in very windy or high current conditions, having more anchor line out is preferable.BeGrit anchor kit comes with 32.8ft rope.If you need longer length rope, you can click below ropes and get other length ropes.
Made from galvanized steel, these anchors can withstand extreme weather conditions without breaking or corroding.
