Reduce Your Mustang II’s Rack-and-Pinion Steering Feel for Better Driving Pleasure The Mustang II-style front suspension is by far the most popular front suspension conversion found on all manner of muscle cars, hot rods, and classic pickups. From the early days of sourcing Mustang II frontends out of the salvage yard to today’s modern tubular control arm and coilover setups, the Mustang II front suspension is a great option for many. Most of the vehicles using the Mustang II front suspension are also small block Chevy powered, and/or utilize an aftermarket accessory drive system that incorporates the GM Saginaw, or Type I style, power steering pump. The GM Saginaw power steering pump uses a 3 gallons per minute (GPM) power steering flow control valve that was designed for standard steering gear boxes and not a Mustang II rack-and-pinion system. As such, the standard 3 GPM output over boosts the Mustang 2 rack-and-pinion unit, creating a feeling of excessive steering assistance, even becoming twitchy and leading to unsafe driving conditions. Reducing the pump’s output in the past often meant an inline power steering flow control valve with extra lines/plumbing and the need to find a suitable mounting location for said control valve. A better solution is our direct fit 2 GPM power steering flow valve that replaces the Saginaw pump’s factory fitting. Simply remove the stock fitting and install this 2 GPM power steering pressure reducer in its place to provide your Mustang II rack-and-pinion with the proper fluid flow for the appropriate level of assist. The fitting is designed to directly replace the factory power steering flow control valve with zero modifications to your Saginaw power steering pump and in most cases can be installed directly on the vehicle without removal of your power steering pump. The power steering pressure reducer is machined from stainless steel and features an AN -6 output, perfect if your Mustang II rack-and-pinion is outfitted with a custom aftermarket power steering hose kit ford rack to gm pump AN -6 fluid lines.
