My mom always said to keep a blanket in the car because you never know when you might need one. I always thought that was a bit silly. That was until I got stuck on a snowy road and needed a blanket. Since then I carry one in all of my cars. This blanket is very light weight and comes with it's own case to keep it in. When you use it with the shiny side toward you it keeps you warm. Turn the shiny side out and you can reflect the sun to signal someone. I think this would be a great blanket to use if you were hiking or camping. I like this blanket I'm going to get another one for my wife's car.

At first you think "it's just a tarp..." But the reflective side really does keep your heat in. I tested it in a cold November rain.. it worked perfectly to keep me dry and warm despite the fact I had damp clothes on. There are eyelets in the "blanket" so you can tie it into a sleeping bag or wrap it around you like a blanket. I am looking forward to trying it as a liner in my hammock in spring. It isn't to heavy to add to the pack and comes with a carry case made of the same material (excellent for keeping the heat in for rehydrating backpack meals!)
