About this item
Product details
This mischevious little darling blooms a bright yellow with reddish-brown markings. This flower is a dwarf Marigold and is very easy to grow, so it makes an excellent choice for urban gardening with limited space. Though native to Mexico and Central America, these flowers spread to Europe with explorers and became popular as ornamental plants. Because of their beauty, they often adorned statues of Mary, resulting in the common name "Mary's gold." Gardeners often use this species as a companion plant for vegetables, since it prevents disease and harmful pests. The genus name "Tagetes" comes from Tages, an ancient deity who sprung up from the ground.The species name "patula" comes from the Latin word for "spreading wide," referring to the opening blossoms.

fast to germinate
I took a chance ordering these seeds in late August, but wanted to try for autumn blooms. Seeds germinated after about 5 days, and after about 10 days I have some hopeful looking seedlings. Looking forward to seeing them bloom! Thank you so much for always shipping fast.

Heirlooms!
I've grown these for years but can't always find fresh seed because they're "old fashioned," which is exactly why I like them. They're easy to grow either in the ground or in pots. They'll put up with lots of sun and, if deadheaded, will bloom the entire season. Easy from seed.
