Compact size, big performance.

I like the larger Daiwa Fuego 100 baitcasters because the magnetic braking mechanism works so well. Most other reels in the Fuego price range ($100) have dials or weights to adjust that are supposed to help avoid backlashes, but frankly, they don't do diddly squat. Diawa's system actually can be adjusted to compensate when you switch to a different weight lure, or go from a sheltered spot to casting into the wind. When I saw the new CC80 reels (under $50), which are a built on a smaller frame, I bought one. The mag brake works just like the larger models. I intended to only use the CC80 for creek fishing...but thenI took it float-tubing in San Diego Bay, even though the reel is not rated for saltwater use. And guess what, the reel is holding up fine after a couple dozen saltwater trips. The smaller size of the CC 80 allows me to palm the reel more comfortably. I used it with 6 to 10 pound test on a 7 foot medium-heavy rod, casting leadheads as light as the 1/8 ounce, up to saltwater spinnerbaits weight more than an ounce. Mostly I fish for small spotted sand bass, but this reel has no problems handling bonefish to a couple of pounds and a seven pound halibut....so far. I have now bought a second CC80 that will probably end up being used for saltwater.

Reliable and cast great

I own 6 bait casters, and this is easily my favorite to cast. I've got 2 that cast further, but the Daiwa has yet to backlash on me and is extremely smooth (using 10 lb super power braid). I've got several Daiwa saltwater spinning reels, (2 are more than 40 years old) and never had any problems. Hopefully that trend will continue with this bait caster :)
