When Erik van Loo - the current chef and owner of restaurant Parkheuvel in Rotterdam - thinks about potatoes, he always thinks about the potato soup of his father, a butcher from Limburg. He actually makes that soup the same way. He just needs to finish it more refined to be able to serve it in Parkheuvel. Cees Helder, the chef who was the first Dutchman to receive a third Michelin star, was his predecessor. Helder repeated the case when it was at its peak, and remembers with great sadness the last piece of veal he prepared there. The third key figure in this documentary about cooking as art, taste and deeply felt emotions is master taster Paul van Craenenbroeck, whose judgment depended on receiving a Michelin star. Smell and taste cannot convey a film, but the speaking photography, which makes extensive use of close-ups, tries to make the experience as tangible as possible. What starts with the birth of a lamb or on the oyster beds, eventually sparkles on the plate like a modern painting. ...The Taste of the Soul ( De Smaak Van De Ziel )
