They tend to be in a folk/americana vain which taps into the nostalgia of my rural Iowa roots, or the darker, jazz/pop side that has an edgier nature. The juxtaposition of these styles reminds me of a saying that my family has used for years. 'Hurry up and relax'. Though counterintuitive, it encapsulates my constant need for balance. I struggle with being a singer, pianist, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a friend, an educator, a writer. I have been performing many of these songs for years and it's a treat to have them recorded. Others have been bouncing around in my head, but never performed. Chris Cash, Patrick Williams and the other talented crew of musicians have helped me get these songs fresh off the press.
